ABOUT

Symi wedding photos | Yianna and Yiannis celebrated their three-day wedding on Symi, with events spanning boats, beaches, and the Gialos harbour. Known as the Cats, their wedding has become a reference point for our studio, inspiring both our work and a lasting friendship.

The wedding

Symi, a Dodecanese island, is defined by the vastness of the surrounding sea. Weddings here often involve boat transfers and harbour receptions. For the Cats' wedding, we photographed the three days as part of a single story rather than as separate events.

The celebration lasted from Friday to Sunday. Friday opened with arrivals in Gialos and a cruise around the island for the guests, a long day of food, music and good company on the water. Saturday started with morning preparations, a midday ceremony, and a reception that continued late into the night. Sunday closed with a beach day and a final lunch.

Symi is a small island, but a demanding one. The harbour, the chapels, and most of the beaches are reached mainly by boat. The day has to be planned with that in mind to avoid surprises. We photographed the ceremony, the reception, and the moments between, including the boat rides that tie most Symi weddings together across the water.

Our approach

We met the Cats in Athens in late August, while they were over from Amsterdam, and we agreed to work together before any of us had set foot on Symi. That kind of trust shapes the photography. When a couple hands the visual record over without a shot list, the work becomes a matter of reading the day as it happens.

We always arrive two days before a destination wedding, though Symi proved more demanding than most. The island needed more planning than usual as ships only arrive on certain days and the celebration took place in several spots. We used the extra time to visit Gialos, Pedi, the chapel, and the reception venue at the times they would be photographed, and to plan the schedule of the day with the planner. That preparation was important. Symi rewards careful planning but does not forgive guessing.

In their own words

I have only one advice to give you if you are planning your wedding; do NOT get married if arChive are not your moment hunters! Angela and Giorgos are the amazing professional photographers and we are proud to also say now, friends. It’s very simple and self explanatory, as they will ‘kill’ to grasp that tiny amazing small moment that it’s so powerful and you never even noticed, and your wedding day it’s over, but they noticed and it’s there captured for you for ever! They are the best choice you can ever make.

I am afraid I have no words to express how grateful and blessed we are that we accidentally found them and they accepted to become our storytellers for our special day and for many more to come. In few words, they go above and beyond expectations on everything – visually, conceptually, professionally – they are there with you, without you knowing, they will bring out your best self, your emotions and they will make sure to capture it! Angela and Giorgos are the photography virtuoso you need for your special day! Dot.

These Symi wedding photos follow Yianna and Yiannis, known as the Cats, through a three-day destination wedding across Gialos, Pedi, Agia Marina and Nanou Beach. The celebration moved by boat between the harbour, beaches and reception, giving the story the sea-led rhythm that defines weddings on Symi.
