ABOUT
Helen and Jean’s summer wedding took place in Symi, with both the preparations and ceremony at Iapetos Village Hotel. The hotel overlooks the harbour and the neoclassical waterfront below.
Helen comes from Belfast and Jean is from France. They chose Symi, which tells you something about both of them.
The wedding
Helen is an artist with a personality that fills a room without trying. Jean has a gentleness about him that you notice immediately — a quiet attentiveness, a smile that takes its time. When we asked Helen to describe him, she said, "The best thing that ever happened to me."
Preparations happened at Iapetos, a terraced stone hotel that rises up the hillside above the port. From there, the view over Symi harbour is one of the island’s highlights. You can see collonaded mansions in ochre and terracotta on the opposite slope, and the water below catches the light in a new way every hour of a summer day.
The ceremony was civil and relaxed. The kind that feels like it belongs to the two people in it.
