Sifnos wedding at Timios Stavros for Alê and Ari, with a pre-wedding party in Kamares and a Greek-Brazilian celebration in Fassolou. Photographed by arChive.
The wedding
Alê and Ari were married at Timios Stavros, a small monastery overlooking the sea on the opposite side of the cove from Chrisopigi. The choice gave their wedding a different rhythm from the island’s more familiar ceremonies, with the landscape opening wide around the chapel and the light shifting across the headland.
The wedding spanned two days. The celebration began the night before in Kamares, with a pre-wedding party at Folie. Friends and family arrived from Greece and Brazil for a wedding day shaped by preparation at Light House Residences, the ceremony at one of Sifnos’s least visited monasteries, and a reception in Fassolou that continued into the early morning.
Preparations were held at Light House Residences, where family and friends gathered before the ceremony. Alê and Ari selected Timios Stavros, a small seaside monastery away from the usual Sifnos route through Chrisopigi, for their religious wedding. The reception followed in Fassolou, bringing guests from Greece and Brazil together on the dance floor and carrying the celebration late into the night.
