Mykonos in November is a different island from the one most people know. The summer crowds are gone, the light sits lower and colder, and the island returns to something quieter and more itself. The windmills, Paraportiani chuch and the harbor area, the waterfront neighbourhood of Mikri Venetia, the lighthouse at the western tip of the island, the long beach at Agios Sostis, all of these are places that belong to a Mykonos that is not the party island.

Sandra and Romain came from Hong Kong. This was their elopement session before the wedding, the two of them, the island, and an afternoon that moved from the lighthouse across to the water's edge and down to the beach.

Our request for a windless Mykonos was granted. And we had the opportunity to move around the island freely and visit locations that are not pleasant with the usual Aegean meltemi. The light at the lighthouse in the afternoon, the way the water sits below Mikri Venetia, the quietness of Agios Sostis outside of summer, we had known these locations well and exploited what each one would give us.

Sandra and Romain needed very little direction. Two people with that kind of ease between them and that kind of openness to the island produce the session almost by themselves. We clicked our cameras and stayed close.
