The Event

Carly and George married in Tsagarada, the village near the top of Pilio with views across the Aegean through the trees. The village square holds a plane tree that has stood there for over a thousand years, at the centre of everything important that has happened in the village since. Preparations and the reception took place at The Lost Unicorn, a hotel with the particular character of an old Pelion house done well. The ceremony was held at the church of Agia Paraskevi, a short walk from the hotel. Among the guests was Paul Smith, the designer, uncle of the bride.

Our Approach

Tsagarada is dense with locations within a small radius, the square, the church, the hotel grounds, the forest beyond. We had scouted the village in advance and understood the light, the locations and what was the best fit for our couple and the story we created for them.

The plane tree in the square anchors the film the way it anchors the village itself, something that was there long before the wedding and will remain long after. We let it hold its place in the frame.

The Destinations

Pilio or Pelion if you prefer is a mountain peninsula in Thessaly, forested, steep, and unlike anywhere else on the Greek mainland. Tsagarada sits near the top at around 500 metres, with chestnut and plane trees, stone paths and old bridges defining the landscape of the villages.

For a wedding film, Pilio offers something no Greek island can replicate, mountain light through dense forest, old stone architecture, a sense of scale that comes from altitude rather than the sea.
