The wedding

Nafplio is the kind of Greek city you remember long after your first visit. Its winding alleys, the seafront with Bourtzi floating in the water beneath the mountains, and the fortress of Palamidi above it all—999 steps carved into the rock, overlooking the bay. This is a city made for stories.
Elmina and Giorgos have one of the best. They first fell in love in fifth grade. Elmina remembers the exact moment: a boy holding a glass ruler in the sunlight, making rainbows on her desk. That detail has stayed. So has he.
We first met them in Amsterdam. From that meeting, we built a sense of connection and trust even before seeing Nafplio together.
Their wedding ceremony was held at Agios Ioannis Theologos. The reception followed at Sambala Beach Bar, right on the water, with the bay in front and Palamidi above. It was the kind of setting that gives so much to the photographer and asks for very little in return.

Our approach

We arrived in Nafplio before the wedding and took time to explore the city. We visited the seafront at different times of day, wandered through the alleys, and watched the sun set behind the mountains, turning the sea a deep red from below Palamidi. That time spent scouting helped us choose the locations for the day-after session.
Elmina and Giorgos didn’t need any direction. After knowing each other since fifth grade, they share a language all their own. Our job was simply to stay close enough to understand it.

The afternoon following the wedding we walked Nafplio with the two of them. The seafront, the rocky arch that opens onto the view of Palamidi, the fortress above. From the air, Bourtzi sits in the bay exactly as it appears in every photograph of Nafplio. But from above, with the mountains behind and the city spread along the waterfront, it reads differently. The aerial shots from that morning became some of the strongest images from these days. The city quieter than it had been the night before, the light doing what early morning light does in the Peloponnese.
