The wedding
Island Private House is part of Island Resort on the Athens Riviera, designed to host weddings without fragmenting the experience. Its scale is smaller than the main event spaces, with a lower horizon and a more contained garden. This creates a different rhythm, one that stays close to the people rather than the setting.
Eleni is Greek. Michael came from Australia, with family roots that reach back to Egypt. They chose the Athens Riviera for the wedding, her city, his destination, the Saronic Gulf as the common ground between them.
The pre-wedding gathering took place in the resort's grounds. The ceremony was held at Agios Dionysios, the chapel embedded in the rock within the Island Resort complex. A short walk from the chapel, the reception continued at Island Private House.
The passage at the centre of their film and photographs was from Corinthians, love is patient, love is kind. Both of them read it. Both voices carry it in the film, interchanged, so it belongs to neither one of them alone and to both of them together.
Our approach
Island Private House rewards staying close. The smaller scale, the contained garden, the chapel nearby, none of it asks for distance. We worked close to Eleni and Michael through the pre-wedding gathering, the ceremony and the reception, and the photographs carry that proximity.
Before any session begins, we take the time to find a personal connection, a detail, a story, something that gives the day its own character and separates it from every other wedding we will photograph. For Eleni and Michael it was the Corinthians passage. Two voices reading the same text, interchanged, that structure shaped the film's edit and gave the whole body of work something to return to. We built everything around it.
