The wedding
Paris in early spring has a particular quality. The light is still low, the city is not yet crowded, and the cobblestones stay wet long enough in the morning to hold the reflections. Le Marais with its old stone facades, the Seine under the bridges toward Notre Dame, Trocadéro with the tower above it, the steps of Sacré-Cœur at Montmartre, each location carries its own register, and the city moves between them in less than a day.
Elena and Nikos came to Paris after their wedding in Greece. Elena wore the gown. They took the train. She had her eyes shut leaning her head on his shoulder, the train a monotonous chorus. Paris was waiting.
Our approach
Paris requires no direction and no augmentation. The city provided the material, the cobblestones, the river, the crowd at Montmartre, the light on the tower at Trocadéro. What it requires from a photographer is the decision of when to click and when to wait.
Elena and Nikos required very little else. Spontaneous, fun and larger than life, smiles and tender kisses overflowed through the day without any prompt from us. The one moment we directed was a dance at night in front of the Eiffel Tower at Trocadéro, building on the Dirty Dancing choreography they had performed at their wedding. The city held it perfectly.
