Marina is Corfian. Ernesto is Cuban. They married in a heartfelt Catholic ceremony. The island carried all of it without effort — Corfu has been absorbing cultures for centuries. One more convergence felt entirely natural here.
The event
The day before the wedding, a welcome party at the Corfu Palace Hotel, overlooking the Old Fortress and Garitsa Bay. Guests from across Europe, Greece and Cuba. The kind of gathering that takes an evening to find its own rhythm.
The ceremony took place at Saint Jacob's Cathedral in the heart of the Old City. A 16th-century Venetian baroque church, its facade unchanged in four hundred years. Ernesto was walked to the cathedral through the narrow streets by traditionally dressed Corfian musicians. Marina arrived with her father and guitarists. The old town carried the sound before anyone was in position.
The reception followed at Triklino Estate, set within acres of centenary olive groves and cypress trees. Decor by Victoria Martini. By evening the light through the trees had done half the work.
Our approach
A wedding this layered gives you material at every turn. Three cultures, two families, one island with a strong identity of its own. Our work was to stay close to the human moments inside the occasion — not the production, the people within it. The father handing Marina to Ernesto. That moment carries more than anything else in the frame, and it asked for nothing from us except attention.
The day after, we took Marina and Ernesto into the medieval old town and through the Old Fortress. We worked with what was already there — stone, texture, the particular quality of Ionian light in the warm afternoon hours. We let the light find them rather than directing against it, softening contours, dissolving the edges between them and the city around them.We ended at the highest point of the fortress at sunset. As the light dropped over the city, a flight of swallows, filled the sky below us. We filmed it. That shot closes the film, and it earns its place.
