Alsos Nimfon, the Nymphs' Grove, sits on a natural terrace just outside Athens overlooking the lake of Marathon. The estate has a stillness that most Athens venues don't have, with open land below and the sky stretching above.

Irini and Kostas prepared at their family homes in central Athens before the ceremony at the estate. The couple's entry to the dance floor was the kind of moment that sets the tone for the rest of the evening.

The next day we went into the city. Kostas is an architect, and the session was built around that fact — geometry, symmetry, the urban texture of Athens at a specific hour. We worked at Stadio Irinis and Filias, the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Faliro, where the concrete architecture and the scale of the space gave the session its visual register. The retro urban character of central Athens ran through both days as a reference.

Alsos Nimfon requires understanding the estate and its light before the ceremony. The terrace, the lake view and the sky all shift through the day, and the ceremony ran from afternoon into evening — the change in light required planning in advance. We arrived early and walked the location.

Before arriving we had learned enough about Irini and Kostas to know what the day-after session needed. Kostas is an architect, and that shaped how we chose locations, angles and framing. The stadium was chosen for that reason. The curved concrete, the repeating patterns and the scale all matched his sensibility.
