ABOUT

A wedding at Kivotos in Mykonos, in October when the island is at its quietest. Bridal preparations on the M/S Prince, ceremony at the private chapel overlooking Ornos Bay, reception with fireworks over the water. Photography by arChive Visual Storytellers. Published with the couple's permission.

The wedding

Kivotos sits above Ornos Bay on the southern coast of Mykonos, a hotel built in the Cycladic tradition with a private dock, a sailing schooner and a small chapel on the water's edge. October on Mykonos is a different island from the summer one — quieter, with the Aegean light at a lower angle and the wind that gives the island its other name.

The bridal preparations took place on board the M/S Prince, the 25-metre schooner owned by Kivotos, an old vessel with its own history, used here as the setting for a preparation that matched the occasion. The wedding dress was by Celia Kritharioti: a swiss-dot gown with long sleeves, a high Victorian-style neck, lace and feathers. The bridal fitting at the Celia Kritharioti atelier in Athens had been photographed separately and appeared on the cover of Hello Magazine.

The groom prepared in one of his favourite suites at Kivotos. He arrived at the dock in a total white suit, a detail kept from the bride until that moment. The first look took place at the dock, with Ornos Bay behind them.

Athina arrived by Riva from the Prince to the dock, escorted by her father and brother. The wind was blowing and the sea was rough, but the images of her in the dress against the light of that morning are among the strongest photographs from any wedding we have covered.

The ceremony was held at the private chapel at Kivotos, with wildflowers by Petridis lining the passage to the entrance. The reception that followed included live mermaids in the pool, water acrobatics, a first dance, and fireworks over Ornos Bay. Athina changed into a silver sequin mini dress by Celia Kritharioti for the party. Warm blankets were available to guests — it was October in Mykonos.

A few weeks later, a day-after session took place on a private cruise on the Prince in the Saronic gulf.

This was a private wedding. We are sharing selected images with the couple's permission.

Our approach

This wedding was one of a kind. Athina Oikonomakou is one of Greece's most recognised public figures, actor, designer, an Instagram presence with over a million followers. Covering her wedding called for a different kind of preparation from any private commission. Every detail would be scrutinised, every image would carry weight beyond the day itself, and the standard had to match the level of international fashion and media her profile operates at.

Kivotos is a venue that reveals itself only with careful study. The dock, the chapel, the approach by water, the way the bay sits below the hotel at different hours, each element of this day had its own logistics and its own light. Photographing the final dress fitting at the Celia Kritharioti atelier in Athens gave us an early understanding of the mood, the bride and what the wedding day would need from us. That session was shot at editorial fashion level and appeared on the cover of Hello Magazine. It set the standard for everything that followed.

A commission of this scale and visibility required an expanded team assembled specifically for the occasion. The atelier in Athens, the yacht, the dock arrival, the ceremony, the reception and the day-after cruise, each demanded dedicated coverage running in parallel, coordinated across the full arc of the commission.

The arrival by Riva through rough water required preparation, protecting the equipment from sea spray while keeping close enough to read the moment as it happened. We had planned for this in advance.

Paparazzi lingered at the edges. This was the most anticipated wedding of the season and the island knew it. Working at that level of public attention requires discipline, staying inside the commission, ignoring what is happening around it, producing work that belongs to the couple rather than to the occasion. Our task was to act as if the outside world had vanished.
