ABOUT

A wedding in Paros for Rosalind and Gabriele, from Ghana and Italy. Ceremony and reception at Monastiri Beach Bar & Restaurant. Photography by arChive Visual Storytellers.

The wedding

Paros in summer. Monastiri Beach is a lively spot on the seafront, where the beach bar, restaurant, and cocktail bar all blend together with the effortless style that Paros is known for in the Cyclades. The late afternoon light and the sea right in front set the scene.
Rosalind is from Ghana. Gabriele is from Italy. They brought both of their cultures to a Greek island and let them blend naturally. This led to one of the most genuinely international weddings we have photographed, not just because of the guests, but because of everything that happened throughout the day.
The bride arrived to the sound of an African vocal and percussion band. The entrance was a dance, not a walk. Kente cloth among the guests, the drums carrying the moment in a way that no playlist ever could. During the speeches, Gabriele's brother performed a song. The rings were passed among the guests before the ceremony, each person holding them for a moment, adding something wordless to what they carried.
After the civil ceremony, we took portraits on the beach in the last light of the evening.

Our approach

Weddings that combine different traditions require special attention. You cannot plan for things you have never seen. The Azonto, the Adowa, and the percussion entrance were moments we responded to as they happened, rather than planned for in advance.
Rosalind and Gabriele let the day unfold naturally. We stayed nearby and let it happen.

A wedding in Paros for Rosalind and Gabriele, photographed at Monastiri Beach on the seafront. A multinational celebration bringing together Ghanaian and Italian traditions on a Greek island — a bride's entrance with an African vocal and percussion band, rings passed among guests for blessings, and a song performed during speeches. As wedding photographers in Paros, our work on the island covers destination weddings at Monastiri Beach and the coastline that makes Paros one of the most distinctive venues in the Cyclades. arChive Visual Storytellers photographs destination weddings across the Greek islands and worldwide.
